Weeding Wednesdays by the Wareham Garden Club
Civic beautification volunteers enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded members who strive to beautify the community using their love of gardening. Seven sites are routinely maintained throughout town by site “teams” that weed, water, and pick up trash at the sites.
Weeding Wednesday was started during the Covid epidemic to allow members to safely gather, garden and socialize at a distance. We have had such a positive response from the club members and the public, that we continue this activity each Wednesday. Members are notified of a specific location that needs attention.
Club members gather with appropriate gardening tools and work together to make a real difference in the appearance of our town. These efforts are supported by the DPW who remove large amounts of debris.
This last week, the group were busy cleaning up the WGC Memorial Garden near Minot Forest at the junction of Minot Avenue, Oat Street and Indian Neck Road, as well as the Minot Memorial park right opposite. Later in the spring, the club will return to the WGC Memorial Garden, where former Garden Club Members are recognized with their names on a series of bricks, to plant annuals make this area a suitable space to honor our beloved friends.
It’s fun to get together, share gardening knowledge, and try each other’s gardening tools. We learn and laugh together. If interested in participating in this activity, contact the Wareham Garden Club warehamgardenclubma@gmail.com.
