Now is the time to dig and divide plants for next years plant sale, while perennials and small and not fully bloomed out. For less plant trauma, dig the whole plant. If you can wiggle and pull lit apart, great. Otherwise, take your garden knife and slice it into how even many pieces you want.
Put the pieces into ots 6” or larger and then tuck them into a shady area protected from the sun, ideally a northern spot, because sun can cause repeated freezing and thawing in the winter. Then just leave then be until you have plants with great rood that will transplant well next spring.
